What is hashish?

Hashish composition
Hashish is mainly composed of the resin or trichomes of the marijuana flower. What is the difference between hashish and marijuana?
Hashish and marijuana come from the same plant, Cannabis sativa, from which both marijuana and hemp are obtained. When we refer to marijuana, we are talking about the whole cannabis plant or, more specifically, its flowers (the buds), which have been consumed for millennia for their relaxing and psychoactive effects. Hashish is obtained from the extraction and pressing of marijuana flowers, from the resin that covers them.
Hashish has a higher THC concentration than marijuana because it is a type of cannabis extraction and concentrates the cannabinoids.
In terms of effects, as a drug, the main difference between marijuana buds and hash is that hashish is much stronger than marijuana, since it concentrates all the resin of the plant.

THC content of hashish and marijuana
The THC content is much higher in hashish compared to marijuana buds. Just as marijuana usually contains between 15 and 35% THC, hashish can contain between 40 and up to 60% purity or even more, depending on the type of extract. In the case of CBD hashish, the most abundant cannabinoid is CBD rather than THC.
Also, unlike marijuana, hashish is low in fibers and plant debris.
How to know if a hashish is good?
The main disadvantage of hashish, especially if we do not know its origin, is that it can be mixed with other substances. How is hashish made?
Where does hashish come from?
Cannabis is covered with small resin glands, also known as trichomes. These glands cover your flowers, stems and even on the leaves of marijuana, and begin to develop during the flowering stage, when the plant begins to form its buds.
In fact, the main symptom of the maturation of these buds, when the grower knows that his flowers are ready for harvest, is determined by the appearance and color of the resin. It becomes more opaque and amber as flowering progresses. This color change is due to the fact that the glands or trichomes are being loaded with cannabinoids and terpenes, and that is why this resin “gets high”, that is to say, it causes the same effects as cannabis flowers (or greater, as we will see later).
Hashish is much more potent than marijuana, due to its high THC concentration. Effects that, logically, will vary depending on the type of marijuana. type of marijuana from which this resin comes from and its percentage of cannabinoids, such as CBD or THC. There are several traditional methods to obtain hashish. It can be extracted from the live plant itself, in its substrate, before harvesting, or from the dried and cured flowers. What are the effects of hashish?
As hash is a concentrate of marijuana, it has the same type of cannabinoids and terpenes, but in higher concentration. Therefore, its effects are basically the same, if possible magnified, since the concentration of cannabinoids in the hashish resin is higher than in the flowers. In other words, hashish is more potent than cannabis.
The effects of hash depend on the variety of marijuana or CBD cannabis from which they are obtained, as well as the presence and quantity of cannabinoids and terpenes:
- If the original strain has high levels of THC or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the most psychoactive cannabinoid, the hashish will have more cerebral effects.
- On the other hand, if the strain has a CBD or cannabidiol dominance, it will have more body, relaxing and anxiolytic or sedative effects.
Thus, depending on this dominance, we will find that hashish can produce quite different effects: relaxation, euphoria, increased appetite, laughter, pain relief, drowsiness…
What are the adverse effects of hashish?
As mentioned, hashish is a concentration of marijuana, so it tends to have a more potent effect. This means that in samples with very high THC levels, adverse effects are more likely to occur, such as tachycardia, dry mouth, anxiety, ‘whiteouts’, short-term memory loss, headache or lack of motor coordination, paranoia or psychotic outbreaks. These effects are mostly produced by the activation of CB1 cannabinoid receptors, due to the high THC content.
